![]() ![]() Hopped up on religious fervor, drug cocktails of uppers and pain killers, they're doing rick drills, they're doing rehearsals, they're being inspected. Even without proper training, they've been taught by Darwin, survival of the fittest. These types aren't to be underestimated, they're top level insurgents (not soldiers) with a lot of combat time (or ar least their cadre). But however many lost they also managed to plan and execute a successful ambush, assault through the return fire to finish resisting enemy in close combat, exploit the site and remove intel (like helmet cam for propaganda purposes), bury bodies, remove one guy's body some distance, possible even capture him alive. If they actually lost 21 KIA out of 50 it means they took a shitload more casualties (though I don't believe those were accrued firing ambush). Overwhelming numbers is massing, a principle of war, surpise is another principle of war. So pretty rough day for that unit, who'd take significant casualties, their patrol leader wounded. Not watching, no way.La David was a S Fla boy. Rest of convoy suffered an additional 2 US forces Soldiers WIA, 4 Niger soldiers lost 4 KIA, 2 WIA as well. Most broke contact, two vics got stuck in kill zone for unknown reasons, white vic managed to escape, black vic was disabled and crew killed, one of white vic occupants was lost from vehicle (La David Johnson). When US forces/Niger military left village in unarmored vehicles, the Islamist insurgents let most pass before engaging the rear half of the convoy. While there locals dimed them out to local insurgent group who massed around 50 fighters with small arms, MGs, RPGs, loaded them in technicals w/ heavy weapons and motorcycles, infiltrated to a position overlooking road leading out of village, about 200 meters outside of it, masking their infiltration with a herd of cattle. I don’t know how the event played out so I’m pretty confused watching the vidUS forces/Niger military stopped at a village for water resupply/Key Leader Engagement.
